Are you still putting most of your San Diego business’s ad dollars toward traditional marketing methods like direct mail, print ads and the Yellow Pages? While these methods do have their place, today there are many more compelling reasons to put some—if not most—of your marketing and advertising budget online.

Here are a few of the reasons you should consider exploring online advertising:

It’s affordable. There are many online advertising options that enable you to set a budget and limit it so you don’t get in over your head. And in pay-per-click advertising, for example, you only pay when someone acts on (clicks on) your ad, as opposed to a print ad which you pay for even if no one looks at it.

It’s instantaneous (well, almost). Compared to the old days of creating a print ad, having it placed and waiting for the magazine or newspaper to be printed and distributed, online advertising does get almost instant results. You still have to create your ad, but often this only involves words (such as in a pay-per-click ad) and you will quickly see the results of the ad instead of waiting for customers to trickle in.

It’s measurable. Offline advertising can’t compare to the specificity of online advertising, where analytics let you measure exactly where visitors to your website are coming from, what ads they click on (or don’t) and what keywords get results. With analytics, you can instantly adjust your ads to boost their performance—and your sales.

It’s global. You can advertise online and reach an audience of millions all over the world—something you could never afford to do with traditional advertising.

It’s highly specific. At the same time, online advertising offers the ability to very narrowly target your audience. You can direct your ad to specific types of users, use specific niche keywords to attract only people searching for a certain product in San Diego, and more. It’s hard to get that specific with print advertising, no matter how niche the publication.

It’s the wave of the future. Online advertising is growing in importance as more and more people have access to high-speed Internet and mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Increasingly, Americans of all ages are using the Internet whenever they want to buy products or services. Shouldn’t your San Diego business be where they are?
